Struggling with back pain in Warrington?
If you're finding it difficult to:
- Move freely without pain or stiffness
- Get through the working day comfortably
- Sleep without being woken by pain
You’re not alone — and you don’t have to just put up with it. Back Pain is one of the most common conditions we treat at Stockton Heath Physiotherapy & Wellness. In most cases, it’s very treatable — without injections or surgery.
The good news
Does this sound like you?
Dull, aching pain in the lower or upper back that won't shift
Sharp pain when bending, lifting or twisting
Pain that radiates into the buttock or leg (sciatica)
Stiffness first thing in the morning that eases with movement
Pins and needles or numbness in the legs or feet
Back pain that keeps coming back even after it seems to settle
Why does back pain happen?
Back pain is the most common musculoskeletal complaint we see — and also one of the most mismanaged. The majority of people with persistent back pain have been told to rest, take painkillers and wait. For many, that advice doesn’t work because it doesn’t address what’s actually driving the pain.
Back pain can come from many different structures — muscles, joints, discs, nerves — and each has a different treatment pathway. Sciatica from a disc bulge is treated very differently from mechanical back pain from a muscle imbalance. Without a proper assessment, you’re guessing.
The other common pattern is pain that settles and then keeps coming back. This almost always means an underlying cause hasn’t been identified. We find it, address it, and build a plan so it stops recurring.
Common contributing factors
- Poor movement patterns or posture under load
- Muscle weakness or imbalance around the spine and hips
- Disc bulge or degeneration pressing on surrounding nerves
- Joint stiffness in the spine or pelvis
- Stress and sleep disruption (both amplify pain significantly)
Why you shouldn't ignore your back pain
- Back pain that's ignored tends to become chronic — and chronic pain is harder and slower to treat
- Untreated nerve compression (sciatica) can lead to lasting weakness or numbness
- Compensating for back pain causes secondary problems in the hips, knees and shoulders
- The longer the pain has been present, the longer recovery typically takes
Early treatment = faster recovery. Most patients start to notice improvement within the first few sessions.
